At least one ride every day for more than a week. Eleven great rides for you to enjoy between 11th and 20th May.

Stevenage Cycling Festival is here and there are a range of fun and friendly cycling activities for you and your family to get involved wuth and the best part is, many of them are FREE!

From led rides, to beginner cycling courses to family events there is really something for everyone to enjoy.

33 in Hot London Run

Consecutive Sundays and totally different conditions. On a cold and damp day two Spartans set off on an adventure to Wimbledon Common. They didn’t find any Wombles but Angie Keeling came home with a new PB (personal best) by 41 seconds of 2:14:01. She said “I really enjoyed the race”. Erica Grayson finished in 15th in her age category (W40) in a time of 1:56:36 three weeks after completing the Ibiza Marathon. The course was on open roads and was quite congested but the crowds were supportive and thankfully the rain held off. [read more]

This is the sixth Stevenage Walking Festival, put together by members of Stevenage Leisure 50, North Herts Ramblers, and Stevenage Health Walks group, and with the support of Stevenage Borough Council.

33 in Hot London Run

The heat was record breaking but a fantastic thirty three from Fairlands Valley Spartans completed all 26.2 miles of the scorching London Marathon. With an official temperature of 24.1 Celsius Sunday’s race clearly beat the previous highs of 22.7 in 1996 and 22.6 in 2007. Add the heat off the roads and from other competitors the temperature runners experienced was much higher than that. [read more]

Warming up in Boston & Brighton

The Spartan Spring Marathon season is warming up – events as well as temperature – with 26.2 races in Boston (UK) and Brighton at the weekend. [read more]

Regional Grading Competition

On Sunday Richard’s Trampoline Club had 5 members competing at the National Development Plan Semi-Finals in Cambridge. To compete today everyone had to achieve the qualifying score at a previous competition, with the aim being to qualify to represent the region in the Regional Team Finals in Birmingham. [read more]

Maria's dream!

Stevenage and North Herts athlete Maria Verdeille’s amazing journey to the Commonwealth Games saw her competing in front of 35,000 people at the Carrara Stadium in the final of the T35 100m last Wednesday. Finishing 6th in the race in 19.38 Maria expressed her thanks afterwards to all those who supported her on the journey to selection and competition especially coach Cathy Walker who was in Brisbane to see her protege compete. Gladman breaks British Record

Travelling to Darlington for the Keiran Maxwell Memorial meeting SNHAC’s Jack Gladman became the first T38 athlete to break the 10 minute barrier for 3000m. Recording a time of 9.56 Jack was delighted with his British Record. [read more]

95.7% at Soggy Sandy

At the soggy Sandy 10 mile race on Sunday morning Spartan YUKO GORDON won her category in 73 minutes 31 seconds which gave her an amazing age related score of 95.7%. She said her time was only 1 minute and 44 seconds off from UK's all time best for women 65 plus for 10 Miles, maybe next time. She felt her legs were heavy from Great Barrow marathon last week. Yuko was awarded the Roger Wadeley trophy for her age graded 95.7%. She was worried about gels and water stations before the race but took no gel nor water during this race. And she says she is getting more nervous about the London Marathon each day. [read more]

Easter 10

To finish their month of mad march races (they had planned a race every weekend but the snow meant one was cancelled) ERICA GRAYSON and TIM SABAN headed to Richmond Park for a very well organised hilly and slightly muddy 5K race. [read more]

Cyclists celebrated Summertime

Now the clocks have changed Cycling UK in Stevenage have launched their new programme with 40 local rides between 1st April and 31st May. [read more}

Multi medalist Iris

Spartan IRIS HORNSEY was a multi-GOLD medallist at the European Masters Indoor Athletics Championships in Madrid. [read more]

2nd Place Overall for Jacob

On Sunday Jacob Tuck attended the Eastern regional Grading competition in Brentwood, representing Richard’s Trampoline Club. Jacob had already done enough to qualify for the Regional Team Semi Finals, but he was looking to improve on his total score and gain valuable competition experience. [read more]

Race Programme Disrupted

The Finchley 20, Oakley 20 and Reading Half were all cancelled by snow and ice on Sunday but the Hampton Court Palace Half Marathon went ahead and JENNY GARRETT, JULIE SHADBOLT and NICOLA TOUT headed down to take part. Conditions were tough with the cold, some ice and the last two miles on slippery mud but Jenny ran a new PB (personal best) of 1 hour 54 minutes 54 seconds. Julie finished in 2:00:22 and Nicola in 2:11:23. [read more]

MK Festival of Running

Twelve Spartans took part in the Milton Keynes Festival of Running. In the twenty miles event RUTH REILLY improved her personal best (PB) by an amazing 42 minutes when she finished in 2 hours 37 minutes 3 seconds. ERICA GRAYSON ran her first ever 20 miler in 3:11:37. [read more]

Masters prepare for Madrid

This weekend saw some of the Older members of SNHAC out gaining some early valuable competition experience at the British Master’s Indoor Championships held at Lee Valley. [read more]

After the Snow

Suddenly the snow cleared the sun came out and more than 11,000 runners raced round the inaugural Vitality Big Half which was won by Sir Mo Farah. Fifteen Spartans ran the half marathon which started at Tower Bridge, went round Docklands and finished by the Cutty Sark in Greenwich. [read more]

As the days get longer Cycling UK’s Stevenage will switch their Saturday Starter easy rides to afternoons from Saturday 3rd March. [read more}

Individual & team medals

Saturday 10th February saw the 5th and final league match of the Results Base Chiltern Cross Country League for 2017/18 held at Campbell Park Milton Keynes. 31 of SNHAC athletes competed in their respective age groups. [read more]

Six of the Best!

Stevenage and North Herts athletes in action over the weekend collected the reward for hard winter training - recording eighteen personal best performances between them along with six gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the Eastern Athletics Indoor Championships at the Lee Valley Athletic Centre. Regional Grading Competition

On Sunday Richard’s Trampoline Club attended the Eastern regional Grading competition in Cambridge. This was the first competition of the year, after the Christmas break. The club had a team of 6 performers, with some trying to qualify for the semi-finals next month and one competing for the first time. [read more]

Watford Half Bronze

Eleven Spartans tackled the Watford hills for a chilly half marathon. They came back with a bronze medal and a new personal best. [read more]

Serpie Spartans

Owing to an emergency diversion Friday’s Serpentine 5K was slightly long but Fairlands Valley Spartan DAVID BOWKER ran an excellent 21 minutes 8 seconds for a 75% score. MADDIE PRITCHARD was not far behind with 21:24. JIM BROWN was second in his category with 24:49. The race round London’s Hyde Park was in cool, dry but breezy conditions. [read more]

Brian a Winner

The Fred Hughes 10 was run in ideal weather conditions for penguins but BRIAN WHITE finished first 60 plus and 102nd overall in 67 minutes 45 seconds. He was five minutes ahead of his nearest rival. [read more]
